Walking in a winter wonderland

Today it snowed and snowed and snowed some more. It was quite delightful to spend a day of baking while watching the snow fall gently and silently. I managed to make a batch of blueberry muffins and chocolate oatmeal cookies. I topped it off with a a salmon pâté. If you have not tried the typical salmon pâté, get cracking. It is easy to make and oh so delicious. At one point, I thought I should clean the snow off the car and shovel the steps and terrace. It was fun playing in the snow. Even Chulita got in on the fun burrowing her nose in the snow and then shaking it off.
After dinner, Gilles was eager to go for a walk. It seemed like a great idea until we opened the door and realized that it might be too cold. Besides, Gilles was already in his pj's. Then, Chulita starting barking at the ironing board. She was jumping up and trying to grab something. It turns out her little pink winter jacket was on the shelf of the ironing board. Finally, Gilles got the hint and let her play with the coat, but that is not what she wanted. He eventually got the hint and put the coat on. We opened the door to let her go out, but she would not budge. We figured she wanted him to go with her so Gilles got his winter gear on. Then, she insisted that I come to by yapping at me as I sat on a chair and knit.
Before you knew it, we were all out on our street in our winter gear and ready for our walk. We had fun chasing Chulita. We walked around the pond where once we swam. The snow was deep. At least 4-6 inches had fallen. It was quite beautiful. The snow glistened under the Christmas lights hung on neighboring trees and homes. There was a peaceful silence all around.
I can't wait until tomorrow. I promised Gilles I would go to the construction site to bring in some logs so he can have them handy. Mostly, I am eager to play in the snow again. Perhaps, I might even get a chance to slide down the driveway in my sled.
I am loving the snow! Life is good in the country when you have the right gear and you can stay warm. Snow can be cold, scary and treacherous, but it can also be fun and beautiful. I am loving being able to enjoy the beauty! I hope my love affair will last. We'll see what I am saying in March .....
